While teachers, students and parents are busy preparing for the start of the new academic year, spare a thought for the wardens.
David Garrigues, a warden, was out from as early as Monday bubbling with energy in the vicinity of Jessie Ripoll Primary School.
"I enjoy this job very much as me and everybody get along very well," Garrigues said, beaming.
The warden generally works from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays to Fridays.
Garrigues has been a warden for nine years, said he gets great satisfaction from doing his job.
"I have to care for the children. I don't know about anybody else but I am doing this for the children," Garrigues told The Gleaner. His greatest challenge, he says, is when some drivers refuse to stop.
