NOTE-WORTHY

Xmas miracle 2009

Let us all continue to thank God for sparing the lives of the passengers and crews on the American Airlines flight that had a mishap in Kingston last week.

For all the years I have been travelling to Jamaica, I always welcomed the clapping and shouts of "Thank you Jesus"; "Thank you Lord" when we landed at the airport. I too chime in, because, at the back of my mind, I know, I must thank my Heavenly Father for taking me safely home. This has confirmed what I knew long ago: we are a blessed nation.

With all the disasters that have been happening all over the world, we have escaped major horrors. So far so good. This is why our people must be kind and loving to each other and work towards stamping out crime. Work towards bringing back the good name to our paradise.

In relation to the response of the emergency services, this only means that we need to have a system whereby we have more paramedics on standby.

PNP's guerrilla politics

While I am not in agreement with the way the people of Jamaica are being heavily taxed by the ruling Jamaica Labour Party, I am yet to hear a better proposal from the Opposition People's National Party.

Once again, Mrs Portia Simpson Miller has hollered out the old guerrilla tactics of protest as if this is going to make a big difference. What possible solutions do you have that will see us going forward in a more positive and understanding way?

We have a tradition of speaking loudly to be heard, thinking that the party that speaks louder or loudest will eventually come out the victor. Rubbish! The $21-billion tax package is not something over which to whine or gyrate. It will affect all of us and therefore we need to sit down and look at it realistically and tell the people the truth without using the situation to score political points.

Fighting for power

I am now convinced more than ever that all the JLP and PNP and the other Ps do is fight for power. It was Lord Acton, in one of his letters to Bishop Mandell Creighton in 1887, who said "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely". Therefore, who are the PNP to point fingers at the JLP over corruption when they themselves have been corrupted and corrupt in their 18 years in power? The PNP's dealings were neither fair nor transparent and only when they were voted out that one realises how corrupt they were. Everton Tyndale
