The devil finds work for idle hands

The Editor, Sir:

I am offended to see so many men sitting by the roadside as I drive in Jamaica. They sit idly by and watch as I go about my business, seemingly observing my every move.

They stare inquisitively into my vehicle. I am sure they could tell how many times I travelled to the town and with whom I travelled on each particular day of the week, yet I have no idea who they are, just blank faces rolling their spliffs and watching us active citizens trying to make a living.

Intimidation

I find this intimidating to say the least, and I know that this is a feeling shared by other business people.

Get these young idlers off the street. Even if they have nothing better to do, they should not loiter on the street where they can watch hardworking citizens and terrorise our women. We don't want to see them and we don't want them to see us. They stir up all kinds of negative emotions and reflect our country in a bad light to visitors.

Some use their cell phones to organise crimes and inform their colleagues when the police are in the area. This is common knowledge, so why can't the police do something about this?

I am, etc.,

G Summers
