Sting almost incident-free - cops

The police in St Catherine South said the Sting reggae show, held at Jamworld in Portmore on Saturday night into Sunday morning, went off without any major breaches.

"The show went well with no breaches of the Town and Community Act," said Deputy Superintendent of Police Clive Blair, head of operations. "The entertainers behaved themselves and the show ended about 8:30 (Sunday) morning."

Blair said the only thing that spoiled the 25th staging of the show was the theft of two vehicles.

Checks at the nearby Waterford Police Station revealed that a 2007 Honda Civic motor car, valued at $2.5 million, and a 2002 Toyota Townace, valued about $700,000, were stolen.

According to the police, the owners of both vehicles parked them and attended the show. On their return, they realised that their vehicles were missing.

According to Blair, 128 police personnel worked hard to maintain the peace by searching patrons entering the facility.

Patrons told The Gleaner that the show went well, with entertainers giving good accounts of themselves.

The show has had its share of clashes, with Vybz Kartel and Mavado finding themselves before court for their use of expletive-laced lyrics last year.
