Two goals by Oneke Ford continued Sporting Central Academy's climb up the table of the Digicel Premier League with a relatively easy 2-0 win over struggling August Town at Brancourt on Sunday.

The burly Ford, preferred to regular striker François Swaby and who only scored his first goal of the season against Arnett Gardens earlier in the round, netted from poacher-style runs inside the six-yard area in the 33rd and 88th minutes.

A hat-trick of goals would even have been a conservative catch against an August Town team that looked woefully short in attack and lost a player - Jermaine Simpson - midway the second-half.

The St Andrew outfit's 4-2 win over Arnett looked almost a stretch of the imagination. They were left warding off attacks by the minute and had only one really decent try at salvaging a goal - Nicholas Smith's second-half free kick which beat young goalie André Blake but barely shaved the crossbar.

Second round

The result left Sporting firmly in sixth place on 24 points, 14 since the start of the second round. It is a tally which keeps them within a sniff of making a first ever end-of-round final, but they must garner points from three remaining games against Waterhouse, Boys' Town and Rivoli United.

Victory against August Town was significant as it marked the first time they had beaten that team and follows last week's first-ever victory against Portmore. The two wins in a row was also the first time they were doing so since their debut in 2007.

The spate of missed chances was the only blight on their performance and Nigel Stewart, who for the second straight week was in charge for the absent Donavon Duckie, was a pleased man.

"It is a very good feeling to be comfortable doing an interview for a long while," expressed Stewart, who normally handles the Under-21 team.

"We gave a good account of ourselves by winning the last two games and though we still have the problem of not converting the chances, hats off to the players."

Paul Young, who has been given the job to resuscitate August Town's campaign, did not seem perturbed by the loss and accepted the defeat.

"Well, I am not worried," he told The Gleaner. "We had a good game plan in the second-half and were looking like we could get back a goal and then hurt ourselves by losing a player."
